Dog Training—teach or train your dog not to chew on your furniture

When we are bored, we often respond by eating chips or a chocolate bar. When our mouths are dry, we pop gum in them and chew.

Dogs don’t have those privileges. Understand that your dog chews on stuff like furniture, shoes, or books for a reason.

He may be bored to death because you don’t give him any attention, affection, or dog toys.

Sometimes your dog chew on furniture because he's lonely or nervous.

Your dog doesn’t normally chew on your precious little things like furniture because he has a grudge against you.

Your dog is normally not resentful even if you are often late with his food.

If you have a dog, expect dog chewing will happen. If he does chew on your shoes, don’t punish the poor thing by hitting him! Talk to him instead. Show him your sad face. Believe it or not, dogs do have feelings. You could buy him some toys that he can chew on instead of chewing on your furniture, shoes or precious property.

Because your dog is a dog, don’t let him be unsupervised until he can be trusted not to destroy your property. Give him a small area that he can enjoy such as a dog house. If you want him to be in the house, that’s fine. Just be by his side.

If he does something bad, speak to him and make him feel that it’s not the right thing to do. Do not hit him. Make sure that you have some toys in his little doggie house so that he can chew on them not your furniture or shoes. If he chews the dog toys in his little kingdom, he will soon get used to chewing in only that area.

Some dogs are smart and a little bit naughty and may wish on something other than just hard old bones. If that happens, be creative with the dog bone. Put some flavors on it such as chicken broth or beef broth. When you have to leave the house, give them a few different flavor toys so that he won’t be bored.

Dogs occasionally chew on things they shouldn’t. The best way to prevent this dog furniture chewing behavior is to keep your precious items somewhere that your dog simply cannot reach. Train him to do his dog chewing in his own little dog house.
