Dog training-Train your dog to show proper table manners by not begging for food

Remember when your dog was a puppy just too cute for words? Remember how you used to spoil him rotten?  Chances are you even fed him from your own meals right at your dining table occasionally, didn’t you?

Who could have resisted when our little puppy ran up with his little tail waving, to beg for food at the dining table.

When you give your dog food from your dining table, you are actually telling him that he will get some of the food and training him not to take a “no” for an answer.

This unintentional behavior is responsible for your dog begging for food at your dining table.

This bad dog behavior can be retrained.  Start by not feeding the dog

from the dining table or any other tables. No matter how pitiful he looks, don’t give in.

When your dog begins his approach, use your “sit”, “stay”, or “go lie down” command to stop him from coming.

When you repeat this dog training technique repeatedly, your dog will recognize not to come begging for food at the table. He will have good table manners.

He knows that he is not going to get any food from you no matter how hard he tries. In time his efforts will decrease and he will eventually stop begging completely.

You will have turned bad table manners into good manners. Use treat and dog praise to help.
