Train your dog not to dig holes in your garden

Dogs are scavengers. Digging is one of their passions. They dig to hide their prey from strangers. Since dog digging is in their genes, depriving of that could make them go insane.

That doesn’t mean you have to put up with your dog’s digging your garden.

To save your garden, have your dog dig in the woods where you walk him. This satisfies his little dog digging craving. He will get used to digging there. When your dog gets home, he will be tired; thus cannot perform his dog digging activity any longer.

Another trick to reduce your dog’s dog digging is to give him lots of exercise. When your dog has substantial daily exercise, he will get tired and be likely sleeping through out the day. Make him get exhausted through fun activities like running or jogging not dog

digging.  If you are busy and can’t walk him every day, create a small fenced area of soil and grass for him to dig in your backyard. Train your dog to dig holes there.

Keep an eye on your dog when he’s about to perform his dog digging activity. Immediately take him to that designated digging area and have him dig holes there. When you do that often, your dog knows that it’s a place for him to dig holes. Your dog knows through repetition and observation.

Training your dog to not dig up your garden is not difficult but requires commitment and time. Commit to taking your dog for a walk on most of the days and let him dig holes there. Never hit your dog to correct his bad dog digging hole behavior.
