Train your dog to lie down on command

This dog training trick is similar to the dog training trick of getting your dog to go lay down. The only difference is this dog lay down trick teaches your dog to lay down momentarily rather than for 30 minutes or more.

After you train your dog to lie down, you can incorporate other dog training tricks to make your dog respond even better.

Have your dog sit in front of you. Use the "sit" command. Otherwise, with a little force, press your dog into a sitting position.

Let your dog sniff a dog treat you're holding. Don't let him have it yet.

Lower the treat to the floor. If the dog treat is one of your dog's favorites,

he will follow it by lying down.  Say "down" or "lie down" or “lie” as your dog begins to lie down.

When your dog lies down all the way to the floor, let him have the dog treat and praise him.

Don't forget to release him by saying "ok."

Repeat this dog lying down trick over and over for at least 5 minutes. Make sure you constantly say the same phrase "lie down" or "down."

Give your dog several days; he will master this dog lying down trick. Soon your dog will lie down on your command.

Although training your dog to lie down works best with puppies, older dogs can learn to lie down too. They just need more time and thus more patience from you.
