A clean dog is happier than a dirty dog, so give your dog a bath

Every dog needs to be bathed regularly whether he is a fuzzy little thing or even just a short-haired smooth looking dog.

Your dog might not volunteer for a dog bath. Some dogs just don’t want to be rubbed, scrubbed and clean with wet hands and soapy water. It just isn’t their thing.

If you have young children, you understand this situation. Anyway, you still want your dog to look good and smell clean, especially after a long dog walk or a long play in the dirt.

Besides, isn’t it a lot more fun to train a clean, well-groomed dog than a dirty one? You bet it is, so be sure to make bathing your dog a regular part of your dog care routine. Your dog will enjoy a dog bath.

How do you know when your dog is dirty enough for dog bath?

He needs a dog bath when he starts smelling “like a dog” (you know what I mean!)

How often should you bathe your dog? It depends. Some dogs need to be bathed frequently because they have longer hair, expose themselves to dirt a lot, and perspire a lot from exercise. Use your best judgment. Always bathe your dog when he smells like a dog. Your dog will feel playful and happy afterward so give him the measure of dog care he deserves.

Use mildly warm water to bathe your dog. For a large dog, bathe him in a bathtub with a rubber mat to prevent slipping. Otherwise a sink basin is just fine for a small dog of a Yorkshire Terrier size. About 25 pounds or under. Make sure the dog bath facility has both hot and cold water for convenience.

First wet your dog, and then apply shampoo. You could use the shampoo that you use on your own hair. Just dilute it with ten (10) parts water to one (1) part shampoo. The shampoo used to bathe your dog can easily be removed from his fur later on.

Gently rub and massage your dog with the shampoo. This relaxes him and gives him an opportunity to enjoy the dog bath. Your dog will associate dog bathing with fun. Next, rinse your dog thoroughly with warm water. Then, dry him with a big fluffy towel. See, giving your dog a dog bath is not that tuff.

Want to kick your level of dog care up a notch with little effort? Rinse your dog in a combination of half warm water and half apple cider vinegar. This dog care treatment adjusts the pH balance of your dog’s coat and helps to repel fleas and parasites.
