Dog House Training

Are you being driven crazy by your dog’s lack of dog house training and his habit of peeing and pooping whenever and wherever the urge strikes him? Put an end to that once and for all with proper dog house training and regain your peace of mind. The dog house training tips below will grant you the wish.

The Dog Crate

Start dog house training while your dog is still a puppy. These methods of dog potty training work on adult dogs too, but save yourself the grief and get an early start on the process of dog potty training while your dog is still young.

Get and use a dog crate for your dog’s house training (make sure it is big enough for him to stand up and move around in when he grows up). Regardless of any negative opinions you might harbor currently

about dog crates, your dog will consider it a place of safety, warmth, and comfort—a place to get away from you and your family when he needs a break. Other than dog house training, it is also useful as a transport device and functions as a live-in babysitter for you when you are too busy to watch your dog.

Get your dog used to his dog crate as a first step toward proper dog potty training. Put a comfortable pad in the bottom. Use treats to lead him inside while saying "crate."  Reward him when he goes inside and stays.

During his initial dog crate breaking-in period for dog potty training, close the crate door for longer periods each time then let him out. Praise him each time for being such a good boy. Never use his create as a place for punishment. He will view it as a negative place and try to avoid it. Also, never leave him in the crate more than 4 hours except when he is sleeping at night. If you do, he will do his business in his dog crate and you wish you had let him out.

Creating an Elimination Schedule

Your dog loves a regular routine and the same holds true for his dog house training. Feed and exercise him at the same time each day and he will likely relieve himself at the same time each day. Don’t over feed him (loose stools) or under feed him (dry stools and straining). Make sure he has fresh water all day until 8 pm (when you remove it). Also, remove his food dish after 15 minutes and do not leave food out at other times, especially during his dog potty training period.

Select a Regular Toilet Area

Select a specific dog house training area for him to relieve himself and take him back to that area each time. Give him enough time to do his business and then play with him awhile before going back inside. If you don’t he may have accidents inside or take a very long time as he knows he has to go back inside right away.

When do you take him there for proper dog house training? After eating or drinking, waking up and even after he has played a lot. If he sniffs the ground in a circling motion, grab for his leash and get him outside! Every dog has an occasional dog potty training accident.

Don’t punish him, simply take him away from the area then clean it up with white vinegar, as other cleaners leave behind a smell that attracts your dog to leave another deposit. Don’t think your dog understands cause and effect like humans. They don’t. Just clean up the mess and move on with his regular dog house training until he has the routine established.

If you do happen to catch him in the act, immediately call his name firmly and clap your hands loudly. If he stops, take him to that same toilet area in a hurry. If you are too late, let him complete his business, remove him from the area and clean it up and then just forget about it. Tada! Your dog has now mastered dog house training.
